Daytime Work Marks Final Phase of Safety and Roadway Improvement Project

(October 8, 2021) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin resurfacing MD 169 (Maple Road) the Linthicum community in Anne Arundel County on Tuesday, October 12.

The resurfacing marks the final phase of a safety and roadway improvement project, and is expected to be complete later this fall. Starting Tuesday, crews will work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, and Saturdays if needed. During work hours, motorists can expect single-lane closures along MD 169 between Hammonds Ferry Road and MD 648 (Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard).

Crews will first remove the existing pavement layer between Hammonds Ferry Road and the light rail tracks, and then from MD 648 to Sycamore Road. After that is complete, crews will move to the middle section between Sycamore Road and the light rail tracks. This phase of work includes asphalt resurfacing and pavement line striping.

Safety and roadway improvements for this project included:

  • reconstructing sidewalks and pedestrian ramps at key intersections to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards;

  • replacing and upgrading storm drains and pipe crossings along MD 169; and

  • patching, milling and resurfacing.

Contractor E&R Services of Lanham is performing the work, and MDOT SHA has worked with neighbors in the community to update them on the project schedule. Learn more about the project here. Customers with questions may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, look for reduced speed limits and other driving pattern changes and slow down in construction zones.
