Fort Meade COVID-19 exercise may cause entrance delays through Friday

Release: Capital Shield EVENT: Fort George G. Meade’s, Capital Shield Annual Full Scale Exercise WHEN: September 21-24, 2021 WHERE: Fort George G. Meade Garrison ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Fort Meade will execute an Integrated Protection Exercise this week starting September 21-24, 2021. The CAPITAL SHIELD 21 is designed to test and validate the Fort Meade garrison’s response to multiple emergent incidents under COVID-19 conditions. There will be minimal impact to garrison services. Security and Emergency Services will be responding to incidents in clearly identified training areas throughout the installation during the exercise. While most community operations will be business as usual, community members may experience increased security measures at the access control points which may cause some delays. Community members are always encouraged to stay alert and to remain vigilant and report non-exercise related activities to the Fort Meade Department of Emergency Services. ### BACKGROUND: Fort Meade is the Nation’s Platform for Intelligence, Information and Cyber Operations. With more than 63,000 employees representing each branch of military service, Fort Meade is the largest employer in the state of Maryland and the Army’s second largest installation based on population. Some of the Fort’s 119 tenant organizations include US Cyber Command, The National Security Agency, Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Media Activity and federal agencies including the Architect of the Capitol and the Environmental Protection Agency.
